"My father used to race a 125 and that is how I got interested, my parents are still taking care of everything, transport, maintenance of the engine, take care of the catering for sponsors etc.," explains Walid who was born in Assen, the home of Dutch racing.
First Pocket Bike Race
From 2012-2014 he was racing in the Molenaar Honda NSF100 series. That last year he enjoyed the Francorchamps round particularly as he clinched the championship. "I was all day the fastest rider."
2014 - Molenaar Honda NSF100
2014 - Moriwaki training in Assen
"That year I learnt to think more about my riding, take better lines and so I fell less. I love fast corners and getting out of the bends fast. I love racing and I want to win, I want to be the best, I love the speed and the best thing is to win even when someone else has a faster bike."
2015 - CEV Moto3 in Valencia 16th & 19th
"In 2015 I learnt that everything must be correct and you have to work hard to get to the top. My best race ever was the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race in Misano. My engine stopped on teh grid and I had to start from pitlane. I gave everything to come back in the field and my laptimes were the same as the guys in the front. At the end I took a point, not the best result but, except for the start, definitely a good race."
"There was another very important race for me last season; The IDM Moto3 race in assen where I won. It was a special race because one of the mechanics who was very ill, was there for the last time, a few months later he died."
2015 - IDM Assen, winning for Toon Ernst
"For 2016 I'm riding beside the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup I am conttesting the Junior Moto3 World Championship with Dutch Racing Team. A new experience and I'm really looking forward to it. I hope I can use the experience from the CEV in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, last year I finished 16th in the championship but I hope to do a lot better in 2016."
2015 - Pushing hard in Aragon
His heroes are Marc Marquez, Andrea Iannone and Kenan Sofuoglu.. His favourite subjects at school are sport and history. When not racing he enjoys listening to music, hanging out with friends and playing videogames. His racing philosophy is pretty hard line. "Winning! Every time I start a race I want to win, even if it's almost impossible I'll try to win. I prefer to win a race and crash two times than finish three times third."
And he loves the speed. "Full throttle corners like the 'Ramshoek' in Assen. The first time I came through that corner I was like: wow, that's fast!"
All to chase his ultimate goal; "To become a Grand Prix World Champion."
"2016 was quite a hard year for me. It was riding for Dutch Racing Team with Honda but it was difficult to switch from Honda to KTM and back during the year. At the end of the season it went better but did not get the results I was hoping for.
Waiting to go out on the Honda
"Despite the results I learned a lot. Not only in the championships but also with all the training I do beside. Especially on my Supermoto I practiced a lot and almost all the weekend we were somewhere on a track to test and train."
Having a bit of fun during training
"Highlights of the 2016 season included my races in Assen. In the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup I ran in first position in both races in front of my home crowd. It was raining cats and dogs and the circumstances were very difficult. I crashed twice in the first race from first position and in my second race again. This time just a few corners before the chequered flag. So I almost won the Dutch TT. I was disappointed but I showed the speed and in 2017 I will try to be in the same position and finish the races. I learnt that I need to try to keep a clear mind. Work hard for 2017."
Dutch TT 2016
"I also had good races at the start of the season in Jerez. I had to start a bit back in the grid, 11th, but I was able to close a big gap to the leading group. At the end I finished 6th in the first race and 4th in the second."
Jerez Race 2 - 2016
"Beside the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup I will ride for Freudenberg Racing Team in 2017. They are also running a KTM and thanks to this I hope to make a lot of progress in both championships. I will take part in the North European Cup and a few races in the CEV Championship."
